The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a significant alert today (July 12, 2026), warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall over the next 2–3 days in Northeast India, West Bengal, and Bihar. At the same time, isolated heavy rain is also expected over eastern Uttar Pradesh during the next 4–5 days, according to the department.

A special alert has been issued for Meghalaya, where extremely heavy rainfall is likely today. The IMD stated that these states could experience intense downpours over the coming days, which may disrupt normal life. Meteorologists attribute this rainfall to a low-pressure system and active monsoon currents. Rainfall has already commenced in several districts of Meghalaya and is expected to intensify in the next few hours.

The IMD has advised the public to stay updated with the latest weather forecasts and follow all guidelines issued by local authorities. Residents in rain-prone areas are urged to exercise caution while stepping out and to take necessary safety measures.
